MARITIME SECURITY

Maritime security is the most comprehensive and fascinating among all the "security disciplines" because it is a multi-domain concept. It deals with:

  • 70% of the Earth surface
  • 90% of the world´s trade
  • land (protection of ports, port facilities, dry ports, inland ports, etc.)
  • air (protection against attacks from above)
  • surface and subsea (protection of resources extraction activities or of ships against pirate attacks)
  • space & cyber (protection against GPS spoofing and cyber-terrorism, IoT / IoE security, space-based surveillance)
  • cognitive (mis/information management, AI-assisted analysis)

and everything in between.

Maritime security has nothing to do with a couple of armed guards on-board a ship or at the gate, but it is an holistic approach based on advanced technologies so that it is no longer a cost but finally a profit-generating strategic asset.

CABIBBE ensures maritime security of the commercial (cargo, cruise) as well as the private (yachts) sectors, of the offshore sector (both surface & subsea), and of all connected facilities such as inland ports, dry ports, and of course port terminals using the most advanced defense & space technologies and sophisticated training methodologies.

CABIBBE is the first European Collaborative Partner of the Maritime Security Resilience Alliance, a US-based organization providing the private sector with guidance & support in aligning physical security, cyber security, cognitive security, and security education in order to operationalize security resilience in the maritime domain and in the protection of critical infrastructures.  The Alliance is headquartered at the NASA Kennedy Space Center, Florida, USA and works in close cooperation with public agencies such as DHS, FBI, and USCG just to name a few.

An Overview of Maritime Homeland Security

Many people believe that maritime homeland security missions only take place close to shore but the truth is that a successful maritime homeland security strategy pushes out our borders, detecting and eliminating threats well before they reach the shores. Interdicting threats to homeland security as far from shore as possible has become more vital as potential adversaries have lengthened their reach. Any other strategy takes unnecessary risks with our national security.

The seven key principles of maritime homeland security are:

  • build maritime domain awareness;

  • ensure controlled movement of high interest vessels;

  • enhance presence and response capabilities;

  • protect critical infrastructures, intermodal hubs, and offshore structures;

  • enhance coast guard force protection;

  • increase domestic and international outreach;

and

  • boost cooperation & sharing of information between government agencies and private maritime security companies.

CABIBBE actively participates in many international initiatives related to maritime security or is a member of professional maritime associations.  Click on the respective logos.
