Welcome to READiNEXT, our resilience & preparedness blog.
Resilience goes way beyond simple survival. Resilience is a complete concept for continuing with your life despite the problems you might encounter. CABIBBE provides advice, guidance, and methods for a resilient life especailly at sea or in isolated locations.

READiNEXT - The Next Level in Readiness - is our own full spectrum human safety & security engineering approach aimed to develop an excellent, independent, specific, yet comprehensive strategy to prevent and preempt natural & manmade disasters and to guarantee disaster survival & business continuity to any individual or organization operating even under the most adverse circumstances, in uncertain, turbulent environments.
We believe that the success & survivability of an enterprise can only be achieved when a high degree of safety & security is ensured, from the bottom up, to each one of its components, at all levels, avoiding single points of failure, so that the overall structure & functions are maintained even in the face of internal or external changes, threats, or disruptive events.
Safety & Security are the two sides of the same coin. They are so interrelated to such an extent that in some languages there are not even separate terms to define them. We have therefore decided to combine its expertise in "both sides of the coin" under one common denominator called READiNEXT, and to offer an integrated approach which would maximize the effectiveness of any action we undertake.
Resilience refers to the ability of an organization to adapt to changing conditions, to withstand & recover from disruptions, and to maintain its functions and structure in the face of internal or external change or threat through an integrated proactive / reactive approach, based on continuous improvement rather than on constraints.
Whether it is resilience towards acts of terrorism, cyber attacks, pandemics, and catastrophic natural disasters, our national preparedness is the shared responsibility of all levels of government, the private and nonprofit sectors, and individual citizens, so that our society maintains its intrinsic positive ability to adjust its functioning in order to cope with change, and to sustain required operations under both expected and unexpected conditions and disturbances.
In the wake of the 9/11 attacks, the US government encouraged enterprises to include organizational resilience as a critical item in their business plan.
Resilience Engineering is used to represent a new way of thinking about safety, security, assurance, survivability, and continuity. Whereas conventional risk management approaches are based on hindsight and emphasise error tabulation and calculation of failure probabilities, Resilience Engineering looks for ways to enhance the ability at all levels of organisations to create processes that are robust yet flexible, to monitor and revise risk models, and to use resources proactively in the face of disruptions or ongoing production and economic pressures. In Resilience Engineering failures do not stand for a breakdown or malfunctioning of normal system functions, but rather represent the converse of the adaptations necessary to cope with the real world complexity. Individuals and organisations must always adjust their performance to the current conditions; and because resources and time are finite it is inevitable that such adjustments are approximate. Success has been ascribed to the ability of groups, individuals, and organisations to anticipate the changing shape of risk before damage occurs; failure is simply the temporary or permanent absence of that.
To create a state of resilience that supports the continuation of an organization's critical business processes and protects its employees, assets, services, and functions, we implement Mission Assurance, an emerging cross-functional discipline which applies system engineering, risk management, quality, and management principles to achieve success of a design, development, testing, deployment, and operations process by reaching across the enterprise, supply base, business partners, and customer base, and addressing risks in a uniform and systematic manner.
Additionally, by integrating Societal Security, a concept developed by the Copenhagen School of Security Studies that refers to 'the ability of a society to persist in its essential character under changing conditions and possible or actual threats' with Prevention-Through-Design, an extension of safety engineering & human factors engineering aimed to mitigate hazards by "designing them out" of process phases, we will guide your organization in developing, implementing, reviewing, redefining, & improving disaster survival, business continuity, and safety & occupational health strategies, in accordance with a plethora of directives & standards.
We follow a preventive approach, not a corrective approach, meaning that it intends to prevent a situation of crisis to occur, or to mitigate the negative effects and ensure a speedy recovery, should the crisis be inevitable, but at the same time to brings a constant daily benefit as it integrates fully with your Company`s project management scheme.
As organizations become increasingly interconnected and interdependent, the result has been progressively diverse and complex exposure to risk. A disruption in one part of an organization can become a contagion permeating into its broader business ecosystem and value chain. Organizations must build resilience into the design and operations of their enterprise and infrastructure.
Climate changes, volcanoes, tsunamis, hurricanes, earthquakes, sudden snow storms, cloudbursts, flash floods, landslides, nuclear accidents, asteroids, riots, pandemics, and acts of (bio)terrorism pose a serious security threat at home and worldwide. Therefore, safety at work, security in the community, highly-trained emergency operators, well-protected critical infrastructures, full-operational capability of our armed forces, and psychological support to civilians are all elements to be taken into account when planning for our survival, at home or abroad.
We take a horizontal view of an enterprise’s risk profile with a focus on integrated risk. Our full spectrum capabilities help clients secure their information and network resources, anticipate and mitigate strategic risks, and counter disruptions that impact mission-critical infrastructure and shareholder value. We support in developing a strategic approach to maintaining operational readiness, even in the wake of catastrophic events, by integrating physical, cyber, and personnel security with contingency planning and developing security policy. We also safeguard information and information systems by ensuring availability, integrity, authentication, confidentiality, and access control.
We foster joint research & development work between emergency response organizations in order to integrate safety & security methodologies, such as tourism business preparedness, resilience, disaster planning, remote interventional radiology in trauma care. and emergency management into one global strategy which, in normal conditions, increases the quality of the services while reducing the operating costs, and in emergency situations guarantees an adequate business continuity without any significant cost increase or loss of functionality.
We are leaders in the design and creation of resilient systems, whether they are physical systems, cyber systems, or human systems. We are leaders in business continuity & survivability engineering, and in technologies for the resilience of Smart Cities. We design and oversee the construction of self-sustaining dwellings with safe-rooms, bunkers, and storm shelters.
We are experts in disaster preparedness.
If it is true that Homeland Security starts with Hometown Security, it is also true that Hometown Security starts .. at HOME !!!
This section intends to be a collection of resources related to the personal safety & security of all of us, as individual citizens, families, and small communities.
1) BE PREPARED - ON A DAILY BASIS
We know it sounds stupid, but to be prepared is the most basic (and simple) thing to do. You don`t need to build a nuclear fallout bunker to be prepared, but you could follow some simple daily routines which will take very little time:
by the way, do you know that brushing your teeth correctly takes 3 minutes ??
2) BE PREPARED - SEASONALLY
Each season at each latitude has its peculiarities. Although it might seem that the weather has become totally unpredictable (although it is not quite so), our response to each "unpredictable" event can be prepared well in advance.
3) PLAN AHEAD FOR WATER & POWER & COMMUNICATIONS
Of all critical resources, we are most dependent on water supply and electricity.
